| - ok FINE. this place is pretty good. BF kept raving about this place, so much so that it annoyed the hell out of me and I mentally noted to myself that it was probably average...i mean its just ice cream. Well, actually, I was mostly right. Giving 5 stars not because the ice cream is super amazing (they don't have pistachio - my favorite flavor!!) but because they marketed this place well as a hangout spot.
Similar to how sometimes you don't go to Starbucks for their mind-blowing coffee but rather to hang out with friends or catch up with people, Jarling's is a great place to socialize WHILE having some ice cream. They have this real local feel about them - wooden picnic benches outside, an almost diner-like decor with neon lights and an open interior that allows you to see into the kitchen.
As for the ice cream per say - it wasn't rich at all, in fact the flavors were muted, not necessarily in a bad way but definitely not like the strong, rich flavor you get with gelato or places like ben and jerry's. One thing I'll have to say is, the quantities are GIGANTUOUS. Couldn't even finish a junior size (the smallest size).
5 stars for the environment, 3 stars for the ice cream, but because I came with the BF and friends and had a wonderful time, will bump up the average to 5 stars :)
