  • I walked in the other day and had to wait because the lady at the counter and one of the customers inside already were chatting. That's fine with me. I wasn't in a rush. Given that they weren't chatting in English, I'm guessing this place is rather authentic. I got the pastel de nata (Portuguese custard tart) and a shrimp and cod (or just cod?) croquette. The two together cost me about $2.20 after tax. That's a pretty cheap snack. Bags of chips have cost me more. The interior is homey. I sat down at a tight cluster of three tables to have my snack. While I was eating my tart, the lady who had been talking to the lady at the counter asked me if I was enjoying it. I said I was. She was enjoying her large wedge of cheese and her bread. We chatted for a bit before I finished my snack. The tart was nice and flaky and the inside was a tad to sweet for me, but I don't have much of a sweet tooth. The croquette was tasty in a savory mashed potato and herb sort of way. If I'm in the neighborhood, I want to get some bread next time. Those looked good. They were also surprisingly cheap.
