| - Maybe we would have enjoyed this place more if we'd never been to Wilderness in The Dells or Kalahari in Sandusky, but it just didn't wow my family at all. My four year old had fun, but there are only two slides for the 36-42 inch crowd, so it's a lot of the same by the end of the day. My thirteen year old said the big slides were ok, but nothing he'd come back for. I think that the age range that would enjoy this place the most would be 7-11 year olds, as they are generally tall enough to do just about everything. My husband and I both said we couldn't imagine spending more than one day here, it would definitely lose it's appeal completely by about hour six. The rates are high for what you get, and although the kids sleeping area is a cute novelty and the second tv was helpful, the suites are rather small, and the bathroom is laughably tiny, and needed a deep cleaning. It just wasn't acceptable for the upscale lodging that this place claims to be. There was a microwave and a small fridge, which we've come to expect when we lodge anywhere.
The "waterpark" as a whole is very small. No lazy river, tiny wave pool with exactly 8 tubes, and no hot tubs. Seriously. No hot tubs. That was disappointing. Chairs and tables are hard to find in the afternoon, and you have the typical classless sect leaving their bags on tables unattended "saving" the seats that they don't return to all day-- always annoying. The water temperature was cooler, they claim 82 degrees with an 84 degree air temp, but I'm not buying that, my little one's lips were blue and I was shivering after about an hour. They do provide towels, but don't want you leaving the pool area with them, which makes for a very chilly walk back to your room. There are a few changing stalls for use on your arrival day if your room isn't ready when you check in, as well as showers for your day of check out, but there aren't many, so expect to wait. You can rent lockers for $20/day, and they'll give you $10 back for bringing your key back by closing, but if you come with a family, expect to need two, they're very small. As a significant plus, the lifeguards are very attentive, and I was impressed with their regimented continual scanning of their assigned areas. I feel like they did a really great job looking over the place.
There is an option to make your room key (which is a bracelet) have charge access, so that you don't need to have your wallet out, but you don't get this ability until your room is ready on the day of check in, and it doesn't work after check out... So for us it was useless. We expected to be able to use it through the entire day of check out, which would have been great.
The fitness center is a joke, and they don't enforce the adults only restriction, as a woman with four kids came into the teeny tiny space and proceeded to let them fight over the few machines available. Thankfully, I was just about done with my workout, or I would have cut it short intentionally to avoid their fussing. Note to the public-- no one wants to hear you half heartedly redirect your kids over and over again-- either mean it, or full on don't bother adding to the noise that they create with their bickering.
We strictly came here with the intention of spending time at the waterpark, so we didn't eat here, didn't play magic quest or visit the arcade or the bowling alley. We ate at one of the dozens of eateries at the same exit off of 85, and did some shopping after we quickly grew tired of the pool. We live about 90 minutes away, and feel no need to return, as it doesn't measure up to what we now refer to as "real" indoor water parks. We buy a season pass for all of us at Wet and Wild in Greensboro and enjoy ourselves all summer long and only drive half the distance. We were just very unimpressed with Great Wolf Lodge.
