| - Do you like Ghost Adventures? Do you get excited at the thought of seeing weird stuff up close? If the answer is yes to either of those questions, you'll probably want to get yourself down to this museum and check it out. I've watched GA, from the beginning of the series, on and off over the years, so when I heard Zak was going to open this museum, I was incredibly stoked(I kept seeing stories about it opening over the last couple of years and it kept NOT opening, so I was like "Is this real life?")
I had a fellow spooky sister come into town this weekend and was able to adventure to the museum today(a Saturday) around 1:30 p.m. As suspected, there was a line. Let me back up and say that parking was easy. There is a lot on the side street that is manned by a security guard and that lot is dedicated to museum parking. Anyway, THE LINE. I was like "mother forker!", but I really wanted to see the museum so I committed. There were consent forms being passed back, so that took all of 2 minutes of my time(basically they want you to know that if you get injured or die, they are not liable. Cool.) We waited for about an hour and we figured out that it seemed like the groups are about 12-14 people each and they start the process of letting a new group in every 30 minutes of so. When your group is finally up to the front, you enter the area where the ticketing is to buy your tickets(yo, buy your tickets there, especially if you're local. It's cheaper. It *is* on the pricey side, but whatever. It is worth it for what it is, IMO). In the ticketing area, you CAN take photos and that is pretty much the last opportunity to do so before you enter the museum. Also, there is a clean restroom, so if you're like me and always have to piddle, that is your chance. You're welcome.
After ticketing, you are led outside again and to the entrance of the house and the tour begins. Our tour guide today was Katie and OMG can I just gush about what an amazing tour guide she is for a moment? Katie is cool. She is the super lovely lady with the red hair. She has a great presence, is funny, is very accommodating and just all around really awesome. But I digress.
The tour itself was a lot of words: overwhelming, interesting, spooky, neat, informative,sobering, and a whole bunch of other words that escape me right now because my brain is in overload trying to think of all the things I saw and learned today. I`ll say that the tour, I felt, was delivered very well from start to finish. There was one point where we did see another group that we had caught up with and we were trying not to listen in on their tour guide because they were ahead of us. I think the timing could be done a little better and the tour groups made a *bit* smaller, but those would be my only two real criticisms. No stars deducted for that because 1. They are just getting started and trying to work out the kinks, which there are very few. 2. I've never tried to run a haunted museum that has gotten so many fans and interest, so what do I know? I know I want to go back and take another tour. Let's review some of *my* highlights and notes:
-This place is PACKED with stuff. EVERYWHERE you look. It was visual overload done well and I loved it. The small, intimate rooms in which the items were packed added to the creepy vibe. I thought everything was laid out perfectly and thoughtfully for what was trying to be accomplished in one museum.
-I read some reviews that said some of the areas seemed like a typical "Vegas" attraction and were too campy. I will say that woven into the more serious stuff, there were some rooms that played more on people's fears and maybe were a bit campy, but I honestly enjoyed that. To me, it broke up the super psychologically dark experience that is the museum. The "cheesy" areas were a small respite from some pretty heavy sh*t. So, yes, there were some scripts, some fun house-esque type areas and some genuine haunted house scare moments, but bring it. My heart was pounding most of the time in anticipation and I thought it was all awesome.
Let's get into some of the stuff I experienced and what really stuck with me.
-There was a serial killer room that was very interesting. If you're a true crime fan, you will love this. Lots of pictures, letters, clothing articles. Along the same vein is the Dr. Kevorkian van and Ed Gein's cauldron(Hello Silence of the Lamb fans!)
-The dybbuk box. That room felt VERY heavy. I left a hair tie in the offering box. Whatever entity is there can attach to my hair tie and not me. Can I get an amen? Amen.
-Peggy doll. I`ll just say that this room gave me an electric chill from my head to my toes and made me dizzy. Very strange. Say Hello and Goodbye to Peggy. Don`t be rude or else. No seriously. Don`t get got.
Yelp is cutting me off so I`ll wrap up by saying that this place is super neat and worth a visit. If the macabre in life interests you, you wont regret it. Or will you? *creepy laugh*
