I had previously chosen only the "straight up" hikes with tons of elevation but found this entire part of the preserve is awesome when the temps are 110 plus. The last 4 times I've been here it's been well over 100 and had the place to myself. You can connect endless trails here for as short or long as you like. The cone mountain section is the most boring in my opinion but the rest is really gorgeous - I've seen several western diamondbacks, black tailed rattlesnake and a desert tortoise along with about 1000000 horny toads. I'd highly recommend this area, well groomed for the most part and for those who don't want the pain of climbing up East End or Tom's thumb you get some great views with a moderate hike. Thumbs down to all the dog poop- I know the volunteers are beside themselves. #packitout
