| - JJ and I stayed only a few blocks from this museum, so I made it a point that we visited. Conveniently, it snowed a few inches one day, so JJ and I headed over once it really started coming down in the morning. Tours didn't start until 1PM, so we missed out there, but I didn't mind going through the building on my own.
The museum had four floors, each with a different theme (post-Renaissance, modern, pre-Renaissance, etc), and although the first gallery was a little cramped, it began to thin out as people spread around to look at the art. It was neat to see the museum's collection of Picasso, and the modern art gallery had a lot of variety to the pieces displayed. My favorite areas were the "Oddities" room, which was filled with taxidermy, astrolabes, and other weird artifacts, and the Napoleon room, which had busts of the emperor, the emperor's (old) clothes, and a number of paintings.
This was the perfect activity for a snowy day, and was made even better by the free admission--definitely check ahead of time if you are planning to visit, because there are a number of days where admission is not collected. As a final note, I would recommend checking your coat--the museum is kept warm and there are a lot of stairs, so if you have to take the coat off and lug it up and down, this might detract from your experience.
