  • By far the worst hospital I've ever had to visit! My father was sent to the ER yesterday at 3pm after his defibrillator went off 3x in a row. It took them until 11:30pm until he was actually ADMITTED and given a room. While he was waiting, he repeatedly told the attending nurse that he had not eaten since 10:00 that morning. It wasn't until he spoke to a supervisor around 11:50pm that he was given a dry turkey sandwich and a small cup of cranberry juice, at which point he was told by the supervisor that he was "lucky" they had something for him to eat and that they didn't serve anything else after midnight. So if I was in an accident and had to be admitted at 12:01am and hadn't had the good fortune to eat right before my accident, I would just be out of luck apparently because they either don't have or won't serve me food after midnight. Wonderful. As if that wasn't bad enough, come 8:30am the next morning, the attending nurses were asked if they would be serving breakfast soon, as he hadn't had much to eat the night before. The nurse assured him that she would check into it. Around 1:30pm, I received a hungry call from my father asking if I could bring him something to eat. He said that he still hadn't eaten and he felt as if the hospital was starving him intentionally. I replied of course and told him I would be there as soon as I rounded up the family. I arrived at the hospital around 2:05pm and headed up to my father's room. I was immediately repulsed by the lack of cleanliness in the hospital as well as astonished by the inattentiveness of the staff. Not one person stopped me to see who I was or who I was going to see. Good thing I wasn't an assassin, huh? Because if I was, not only did they not say anything to me but they were also standing around talking loudly and violating every part of the HIPPA law imaginable. When I got to my dad's room, he was sitting in bed by himself and was telling me he was thirsty. I walked over with the food and started to pour him a nice cup of room temperature water that seemed as if it arrived at his room the same time he did. I went out to the nurses station to see if they could at least bring him a fresh pitcher of water with a little ice in it, and the nurse that I spoke to yelled across the hallway to someone else that "Mr.____ needs water in Room___". Really? I'm sure everyone in the area needed to know my dad's name and room number so they could stop by and wish him a speedy recovery later. At least I can say that they brought him the drink quickly. It was not the pitcher of water that I asked for, but it was a cold can of Sprite. The pitcher of water that I asked for still hadn't arrived by the time I left. Anyways, around 2:30ish, a nurse casually strolls in and comments "I see someone brought you lunch". My dad fired back, "Yeah, seeing as how I'm still waiting for my breakfast AND lunch trays to arrive from you guys". The nurse joked, "Well don't fill up on your lunch tray seeing as how it may come 30 minutes before dinner and they may have something good for dinner." Excuse me? Was she trying to be funny? Or was she actually being serious? Seeing as how my dad might actually starve to death since they seem to not want to feed him. Does she NOT realize that dinner is served at 6pm? So she was honestly expecting him to go 17 and a half hours without eating? And at what point do you say to yourself, "I should probably call a supervisor about this"? As if the sanitary standards weren't already low enough, whose manager thought letting their staff member walk around with a full on 12 inch beard was a good idea? Explain to me how his face mask is supposed to fit properly when entering a room where a contact patient may have MRSA or CDiff? I would hate to be the next patient he sees after that! All in all, if I was dying and they were going to drop me off at this hospital, I would have to pass and ask to be taken to the next available facility. I think I would rather take my chances with going the extra distance as opposed to having the hospital finish me off through starvation, contamination or lack of observation.
