I was finally able to make it here. I must say it is an interesting concept and a twist on ice cream. They make their ice cream in house supplied by Turner dairy. I met the owner and learned that in May of this year there will be a 2nd location opening up in Cranberry Township.
You can order off the menu board which cost $7.00 + $.75 per additional topping plus tax. There is a 2nd board where you can choose either vanilla or chocolate ice cream and add your choice of three toppings.
I was told that the price and size of your ice cream is fixed. You cannot order a smaller size which could pose a problem if you are bringing kids. I realize this is a lot to shove out for ice cream but you actually get to see them "roll out" the ice cream and create the dessert you ordered first hand. It does take more time than just scooping out of an ice cream barrel which would possibly account for the higher price.
I decided to go with one of the monthly specials which was mango tango. It also included strawberries and bananas. It looked huge when I got it but when I ate it I was glad it didn't seem heavy on my stomach. It was very good. I ran into a friend there who decided to try the do it yourself with vanilla ice cream, almonds, strawberries and pecans. She let me have a bite of hers and it was indeed very good.
They have a small bar seating area if you wish to eat inside. Most people usually take out since the line is arranged in a half moon pattern to enter, order, and leave.
This is a novel approach to making ice cream and I am aware of the fact that there will be at least one new competitor opening up soon in a different part of the city.
I cannot see myself going on a regular basis due to the size and price but it is worth a try now and then. Good ice cream shop right in the center of Lawrenceville.
