It's tough to say enough good things about East End. Even though it's not a pub to hang out at, this is still my favorite beer experience in Pittsburgh. I go out of my way to try to make it here frequently. As others have noted, they change beers often so there's almost always something new and interesting to try. I also can't tell you how grateful I am that they actually keep the website current. Why more places don't do this is a total mystery to me.
For a place as pared-down as this there are only really two things to review: the beer and the staff. I've found the employees to be sincerely friendly and totally into the product, which is awesome. As for the beers, they're my favorite PA brewery, and as a state there are a lot to pick from. I love that they're willing to tackle any style and try new things. Although there are occasional misses (I find the monkey's uncle weizenbock totally unbalanced and even harsh), there are far more successes. My favorites so far:
Gratitude (not alone on this one, this is one of the most sought-after beers anywhere);
Kvass (first and only one I've ever had and it was outrageously good - although this sounds insane, it tastes like a fresh baguette);
Bigger Hop (easily one of the best imperial IPAs from the Eastern US...saturated with citrus notes and truly stunning when fresh).
What an asset to the burgh's beer scene. Keep it up guys.
