| - It had been a small pipe dream of mine to actually stay here. Now that my bro and I discovered the magical Christmas secret of staying Downtown during the holidays, we got a great rate AND got to fulfill one of my greatest Vegas dreams!
Unfortunately, as are most heavily-built-up fantasies are wont to occasionally do, the Nugget was somewhat of a let-down... I like it a lot, and I still consider it to be the utmost Downtown icon, but I'd rather explore other area hotels next time.
The room:
+ Clean, comfortable, and A/C-Heat system worked perfectly
+ Conveniently located near our parking structure
-- NO "DO NOT DISTURB" SIGN, wth???
-- Our door (as well as all other neighboring doors) slammed HARD
-- The bathroom doesn't come with shampoo/soap amenities
-- And yes, believe the hype: the Carson Tower is indeed the most rundown of them all.
The casino:
+ Expansive, plenty of space and various 'rooms' or gaming areas
-- Late night tables? The selection is just shady and wrong (i.e. higher limit, variety of games over quantity of dependable games... really, come on now, I am drunk and looking to get my cheap blackjack on... not play an empty $10 Let It Ride table)
+ My brother played some random $1 slot machine and we won a bit of our losses back... yay!
-- Sports book bar make weeeeeak drinks
-- Sports book employees were helllllla slow at this one halftime betting period and as a result pissed off a LOT of people.
I still like the Nugget; I still love Fremont Street. I'm still in love with the shark tank and other parts (a club called GOLD DIGGERS??? Next time, cougars, next time) of the joint. But would I ever stay here again? Eh, probably, especially if there's any special deals for the Gold or Rush Towers. Sayonara, Carson Tower!
