  • I found out about N15 Hair Salon on Chura's Yelp page where a Yelper pointed out that Hiroki (Chura's first salon manager) finally opened up his own salon. It's always challenging to book an appointment at Chura. Also, they have a high turnover on their stylists, so every time I went back to get a haircut, I was never styled by the same stylist I had before. So, I decided to give N15 a try. I made an appointment online and managed to get Hiroki as my stylist. I had my hair cut by Hiroki a couple of years ago at Chura & I remember liking it. N15 is much more spacious than Chura. I love the minimalist decor and high industrial ceiling. The location (to me at least) is more strategic than Chura. I was the last client they had on Saturday. I was immediately attended by a lovely lady who also then washed my hair. It was a very soothing process, gotta love the head massage! On to the haircut process: I showed Hiroki the inspiration photo, he asked me how much hair to cut (1.5 inches I said), and he did exactly as told. Well, almost He told me he didn't give me as much layer at the back because of the texture of my hair (more on the coarser side); longer layers would make my hair appear shinier/healthier. I had no problem with that and I appreciated his honesty. My haircut came out to be $90 incl. taxes + tips. Pretty hefty for a 1.5in haircut, but I expected that going in. Even after a couple of washes after at home, my haircut still looks good. I can see the cascading layers that Hiroki created. They add a "bounce" to my hair, if that makes any sense :) Hiroki is a man of few words and I don't typically like to chat with my hairstylist while he/she's cutting my hair, but I do appreciate a "hello" or "how are you?" or a simple introduction before the process and a "thank you" or "see you again" after the haircut. He skipped all that and went straight to cut my hair. Perhaps it's because I was the last customer of the day? But I do hope he warms up to his clients now that he's the owner/director of N15. I will definitely go back and try getting my hair cut by the other hairstylists!
