| - We had a double-wide garage door that decided to latch itself on one side of the garage, while ripping a small tear in the top metal panel of the door and breaking a spring.
While we wanted to upgrade our doors to some super-quiet insulated doors like our friends had done, we also didn't want to spend much money at the moment.
I had four different repair shops stop by. One, recommended by a friend, insisted on a $30 trip charge to stop by to try and sell us some doors. That should have been a red flag...their quote for insulated doors was the highest, and they refused to try and patch the existing door to get us through in the short term.
In contrast, Jim Pascarella, from A1 stopped by at the appointed hour and brought samples in order for us to see and touch the different garage door options available to us. A former repair tech himself, he spoke to the issues from obvious experience, and even troubleshooted a minor problem on our smaller door while just walking past it.
Our existing garage door company gave us a sub-$300 quote to get the door functioning again. When I called Jim back to ask him if he could match that quote for a bare-bones "get it working" arrangement, he bettered the quote by a few dollars and assured me they'd get a tech out the next day to get us working.
Sure enough, Craig ?? (I didn't get his last name) showed up yesterday at the appointed hour. He did the work as quoted, and had the door functioning quietly within about 1:15 hours.
While Craig did great work, the real story about this review is the sales experience we had with Jim. He was patient, shared his knowledge and wrote us a quote for insulated doors that wasn't the lowest, nor the highest. Most importantly, it sure beat the others in terms of perceived quality and value.
