  • I've read a lot of the criticisms of Troubadour and I understand where it's coming from. As someone who usually drinks coffee with a bit of cream/milk, it's surprising to walk into a coffee shop and have the owner or employee tell you that they do not offer sugar or creamer with their coffee. But that's why Troubadour is unlike other coffee shops and should be understood, treated, and appreciated as so. You shouldn't come here for a quick coffee to go or a cheap cup or something you can fill up with a massive amount of creamer and sugar just to taste somewhat good. You should come here to have a seat, relax, and feel the full experience of an enjoyable cup of coffee. Walk in, check out their menu and pick a cup of coffee that strikes your eye. Have a seat, bring a book or some work to do, and even if you don't normally drink your coffee black, savor whatever you've selected. It will taste quite good black. Just relax in their quiet environment for an hour and enjoy a cup and it's well worth your $4. That's the experience you're supposed to have. If you look at it with a different approach as some have here (and I understand why) then it seems pretentious but if you look at it with the approach of a coffee shop that truly appreciates coffee and wants to provide you with a great experience of what that entails, then you'll love it here as I do whenever I'm visiting Cleveland. Would you go to Great Lakes Brewing and ask them to add a lime to a Lake Erie Monster? Exactly. Would you also pound down a Lake Erie Monster in a game of beer pong? Exactly. Look at it with the same perspective. I will say that this area of Cleveland is odd in that there doesn't seem to be many independent coffee shops. It's a lot of Starbucks or McDonald's and then Troubadour so there's nothing kind of in the range of a $2-$3 cup of coffee while supporting a local shop. So, in supporting a local and chill place, Troubadour is the way to go. Someone referenced The Soup Nazi but with the coffee. That may be accurate but think about the conversation Kramer had with The Soup Nazi. "You suffer for your soup. You demand perfection from yourself from your soup." Go to Troubadour. Suffer for your coffee. Drink it black. Demand perfection. Enjoy.
