  • I first started going to Bonanza Cat Hospital when Dr Steelman was on Bonanza and Nellis 20 yrs ago. I was so happy with the knowledge of this vet and her compassion for animals I knew i had the best vet ever for my cats. When she moved her hospital to Lake Mead and Buffalo i was sad since I lived in Henderson and she was now so far away but i decided when you need the best I had to be grateful Las Vegas was so blessed to have her and myself the most! Then she moved even farther north and opened a beautiful large cat hospital. It takes me almost an hour to get out to her but i don't care. I want the best vet for my fur babies. When I first found her many, many yrs ago she was my second opinion vet I had chosen. My vet from another animal hospital had misdiagnosed my poor little cat. She was a little feral I had trapped and tamed down and she had medical problems galore. I had taken her in because she had trouble eating and seriously red conjunctivitis in her eyes. My other vet showed me she had a hole in the roof of her mouth and tried to treat her with antibiotics but when the red wouldn't clear up and the hole wouldn't heal told me there was nothing else that could be done for her. I knew she was in pain and I wasn't going to let her suffer. He wanted me to put her down even telling me she's just a feral! I took her to Dr Steelman for a second opinion and she had that big hole on the roof of her mouth closed and healed in two weeks AND she did a dry eye test on my kitty and said she had the worst dry eyes she had ever seen a kitty have. All she needed was eye drops in her eyes that I could buy over the counter and Dr. Steelman told me which one was safe for her and would be best. Which was wonderful to save me money. Thankfully that cleared up the worst of her poor red eyes but she had to have those eyedrops for the rest of her life. I use to do rescue for many years and have had many cats with special problems and I could write pages of stories of how she healed those kitty's. If you want the very best veterinarian for your cat go to her. Yes sometimes you may have to wait longer than other clinics but you are NOT rushed out. She spends so much time with you answering all your questions you have now and any she thinks you might have later. She is the best and I'm so blessed I found her that day back in 1997. She does so much to save the lives of cats many that have tragic stories and even though the clinic is closed on Sunday many times she is there giving medical treatment to those special need kitties you will find in the Poppy Room (just ask they are always in need of volunteers who will come in and show them attention and love) that need medical treatment that can't wait till Monday. As an example recently one Sunday I was in the neighborhood of Bonanza Cat Hospital with a friend in my car and pulled in to show her where this wonderful cat dr is. As we pulled into the driveway I didn't notice any cars but a back door ajar. I called the clinic and got the voicemail so I left a message there was a door ajar it's Sunday and I'm calling the police if I don't get a response and Im going to investigate. I left my friend in the car in case something went wrong she could call the police for me. I crept up to the door and tried to peek in but couldn't see anything I needed to step in for a closer look but didn't feel that brave but was ready to sucker punch anyone getting ready to run out when she came to investigate after noticing someone who shouldn't be around her door. When she saw it was me she laughed when I saw it was her I was embarrassed but so relieved. I'm so glad I didn't step in! It never even occurred to me she could be there in my mind it was a prowler...... it would have been different if I had seen a car pulled right up to the front of the clinic. Then I would figure someone is their giving medicine or doing the cat boxes or even janitor work. This Review is already longer than I intended but I want everyone to know from my heart and soul how I feel about this Dr. I should have written this a long time ago but she's so overworked with caring for not just her clients cats but the Poppy cats she doesn't have much time to just relax. Please if you ever are thinking of adopting a special kitty adopt from the Poppy Room if you know of anyone that's getting ready to adopt. Read how the Poppy Foundation came to be. And if you can spare just a little bit to make a monthly donation to help out on the medical bills and food for all the Poppy cats please know your contribution would be so appreciated. Thank you for reading
