| - These folks take care of the dental needs for the animals at the Phoenix Zoo. Their expertise is through the roof, but so are their prices. The main reason we chose them is because they are very good at anesthesia, which the Humane Society and run-of-the-mill pet vets are NOT.
They are located in a strip mall, but don't think their prices are any less than they would be if they were located in a large medical building they were the sole owners of. With the amount they bring in per day, they certainly could be in their own medical building.
Remember, they are located in the heart of retail Scottsdale (and upscale areas of Gilbert, Glendale & Tucson) and they will charge you as if you owned a $1.5 million home.
If they give you an estimated range for proposed services for your cat or dog, rest assured the final bill will end up at the HIGHEST part of the range given, and they leave the door open to ADDITIONAL costs if other things come up.
They may offer to put your pet under anesthesia, examine it, then call you after they have a more exact estimate, but no pet owner is going to say "Oh never mind, I can't afford that, wake my pet up and I will only pay for the exam, anesthesia, x-rays, and blood work" and stop short of getting the procedure -- and they know that when they make that totally meaningless offer (designed to make you feel like you have some control over the sky high prices).
If you want your pet treated by the people who treat the big cats and other animals at the zoo -- you better have the budget the zoo has, because you will almost pay what the ZOO pays...
TIP: If your pet needs 1/3 to 1/2 of its teeth out due to periodontal disease or something, just go ahead and have ALL the teeth pulled and get it over with, because there will be 1-2 more such procedures down the road anyway. Also the older they get, anesthesia can be more problematic, especially if new medical issues crop up. You will save $$ in the long run.
