| - People helping animals. Animals helping people. And it only took one public tour by this animal lover to decided to become a volunteer. This is a unique and wonderful "orphanage" for farm animals such as pigs, goats, sheep, ducks, chickens, geese, turkeys. llamas, cows, and donkeys. They are all permanent residents and not for instance other wildlife who are rehabbed for return to the wild. It's a forever home for a bunch of friendly, fun farm creatures. They are cared for by about 150 volunteers and a handful of paid staff. The animals are involved in visits to veterans, retirement homes and schools, and there are regular weekend public tours where you can get to know the residents and learn more about their histories. The website has a pic and bio of each animal. It's a great place to volunteer in various capacities. I chose the animal care and feeding which involves one three-hour shift either from 9AM-12PM or afternoon from 4PM-7PM. Great people to work with. And if you love animals, you'll enjoy Heartland. You can make salads for pigs!
