| - I had been to Beauty Brands Salon and Spa in June and had a great experience there. I was planning to go back but then the lovely local clipper magazine came in the mail - flooded with awesome neighborhood coupons, I couldn't resist using one of them. Inside were several coupons for area salons, incuding Untangled, and when I found 21 reviews for it on google averaging 4 out of 5 stars, with coupon in hand, I decided to make an appointment.
What I paid (w/coupon) - $45. This included a wash, cut, & blowdry, as well as eyebrow & forehead waxing.
What was great - I saw Amiee and she was fun, bubbly, and really easy to talk to. She's young but has a lot of hair experience. Her mom owns a salon and since she was a kid, she was constantly exposed to the business, and she knows what she's doing. She did a FANTASTIC job with my cut and it was more than what I wanted. She got the length exactly right and she listened to what I asked about keeping the layers in the back, and pretty much nailed my do.
What was good - Amiee also did my eyebrow and forehead waxing. She admitted that she hadn't done a lot of forehead waxings before but was ready to get it right. She took me to the waxing room and had me sit next to her with mirror in hand and point out specifically what I wanted. After I explained that I wanted the eyebrows just cleaned up (and not shaped) and my forehead cleanly waxed, she proceeded to get this done while chatting with me. We had a great conversation and when she was all done, in the dark with a neon light in the room, I got a mirror to take a look. From what I saw, the work looked great. She offered to turn the lights on so I could see better, but I said it was fine. That was my fault. When I got home and looked again, in natural light, I saw room for improvement and areas that could've used further trimming. I'll say Amiee made an effort and did a good job, but I've been spoiled by Tammy in DC and I guess my standards for waxings are really high.
What was not good - My appointment was at 2pm and it wasn't until 2:25 that I was actually seen. I was getting slightly cranky by the time Amiee came over to get me but b/c she has such a great personality the irritation wore off.
The other thing that was a minor nuisance was that they charged me $5 more than what I was quoted on the phone. Not a big deal, but just not consistent. I made my appointment with Stephanie and she told me that with my coupon, the cut would be $19.99 and the eyebrow and forehead waxings would be $10 each (So a total of $40). When I went to pay today, I think her name was Luanne, was at the register and quoted me $45. I didn't want to make a big deal over $5 but just a heads up that they may not charge you what they tell you on the phone.
Verdict: I will very likely go back to see Aimee and get another cut. I will also have to be upfront about what I was quoted when I pay so I don't pay more than what I expect a second time. As for waxing, I'm not sure if I'll get waxing done at Untangled again, I'm still on a quest to find Tammy's twin in NC!
