See below the email I sent to AA today--an unbelievable experience!
I want to share the extreme disappointment with my flight on 2/11/17 from PHX to JFK. Sadly the male passenger next to me was extremely obese. He asked that I not pull down my arm rest due to his size. His body spilled over into my seat by at least 33% or more. During the entire flight from PHX to JFK was body was turned to the aisle with my right knee in the aisle. I went to the rear galley and spoke respectfully with the flight attendants. I was advised the flight was full and there were no empty seats to move to. On take off and throughout the flight the flight attendants knew he was NOT using a seatbelt. They informed me the issue was with the gate agent in PHX allowing him to board the flight without purchasing 2 seats. That there was nothing they could do. I waited for the pilot of the flight on the jet way after the flight to inform him of the situation. He was polite and respectful. I informed him of the knowledge of the flight attendants that they were aware the passenger did not have the use of a seat belt for the entire flight. This passenger slept almost 80% or more of the flight and was traveling with a female passenger. Six or more times he snuggled into me due to sleeping, similar to a bear snuggling up to me. I hope AA will do something kind to compensate me for a MISERABLE flight. I hope AA will address the gate agent in PHX lack of professionalism by allowing this passenger to travel with one seat. I feel for someone that is this obese. He will have a short life expectancy. I would ask that you provide me with an email address to send pictures documenting my seat being overtaken. I intend on reporting the lack of seatbelt use to the appropriate agency. Honestly I am shocked that this incident happened. As a Platinum Elite AA member I know this is unacceptable.
