| - Since I am roughly equidistant from this Whole Foods and the one on Chagrin Blvd. in Woodmere, I might patronize one or the other as my mood dictates. When I choose this one, though, I invariably have a less pleasant experience.
Despite having amenities such as the great Coffee Bar and Dining Counter, the layout of this store is so clunky that it legitimately detracts from my shopping experience! I feel that it was designed to have the feeling of a store that is more urban, like the Whole Foods in Chelsea or Union Square in Manhattan.
In theory, I'm behind that concept - and I do like how the parking arrangement keeps the bulk of cars out of sight, rather than creating a vast, street-facing parking desert. However, on a functional basis, the layout here just doesn't work well. The lines back up into the aisles. Between aisles and department, the flow of traffic is such that you always feel as though you are about to collide with someone else. The cavernous construction of the store has all the ambiance of a dimly lit Best Buy.
That said, it's still a Whole Foods! I always come away with what I need/want - and then some! The staff is great and the selection is unrivaled. I still come here as needed, I just may leave feeling more frazzled and drained than when I entered.
