| - We flew a round trip non stop flight this weekend from Charlotte to Philadelphia on Frontier Airlines. I was skeptical because of other reviews I had read about this airline, but the price of the tickets were just to cheap to pass up. We purchased the tickets through Kayak about a month before the trip. I gave it four stars instead of five for 2 reasons, first there was only one option for times to leave and return on the days we were planning to travel. I believe this is because Frontier is fairly new to flying out of CLT, so there may be more flights added as time goes on. The second reason I only gave four stars is because after you buy your tickets when you check in online prior to your flight you also have to buy a seat, both ways. The prices of the seats is either $25, $15 or $10 depending on where you sit in the plane. There is no first class on these planes. We opted for the $15 seats both ways which brought the total for each ticket to $167.00. We only brought book bags that were within the size regulations for your 1 free personal item and sent our clothing bags up separately with a family member who was driving to the wedding we were to attend over the weekend. This airline, like most, makes their money on bags, refreshments on the plane, TV usage ($5.99 for unlimited for flight duration) on the plane and tickets getting changed. We checked in the night before the flight online (it was available 24 hours prior) and printed out our boarding passes at home which allowed us to skip the check in lines at the airport both times and just head right though security and to our gate. It was when you do the online check in that you are given the option of which seats you will purchase. The flight leaving CLT was delayed by about an hour and no announcement was made from the airline or the gate. I happened to find out because I was following flight tracker on my laptop at the airport and saw there was a delay in the flights departure from PHL back to CLT. I asked the girls at the gate desk about it, they confirmed the new time and then made the announcement to the gate waiting area. The flight was smooth on take off and in the air. The decent was slightly bumpy into PHL but the landing was smooth. Once again we checked in for our return flight the night before and printed our boarding passes. Our return flight at the end of the weekend was on time boarding, on time taking off and landed in CLT about 25 minutes early (only an hour and four minutes for the time in the air returning!). Take off, in flight and the landing on the return flight was very smooth. The flight crew and pilots for both flights were polite. The seats were not amazingly comfy but you are not on the plane for that long so to me that was a non issue.
In summary the airline is new in CLT. The fares are crazy cheap, but they can creep up on your when you start adding bags to your trip, using the in flight TV or buying in flight refreshments. If you are able to send your clothes separate or pack very light in a book bag this is the airline for you. This is the type of airline you need to be able to walk on the plane and walk off the plane to keep your tickets reasonable. Be responsible. What I mean is check in early and get there early. Although it was strange you had to buy a ticket and buy a seat it gave us the opportunity to sit up closer to the front of the plane so we could get off the plane quicker both ways. We were very happy with the service, the prices and the overall experience we had with Frontier Airlines. We travel to Philly from Charlotte and back about 2-4 times per year and as it stands right now we will be flying Frontier airlines until they give us a reason not to, which I hope they never do!!!
