| - Dr. Bennion is probably knowledgeable, but she put her interests ahead of mine, and THEN IMHO retaliated against me for pointing that out. I already had an abdominal hernia in need of repair when I saw her about getting my ovaries/tubes out. I had found the best hernia doctor on the West Coast. I suggested a combo robotic procedure with him and her for both problems.
Knowing that my hernia guy doesn't go to Banner UMC (fka Good Sam) and only goes to Banner Thunderbird, Bennion steered me away from him and lined me up with a different hernia surgeon named Patel to do the combo with her at Banner UMC (fka Good Sam).
When I went to see Patel, he said he doesn't even DO hernias like mine anymore (Bennion apparently was not up to date). Patel also said my original hernia surgeon was the undisputed best on the West Coast and I should stick with him and COULD stick with him if I simply chose one of Bennion's peers in her very own clinic to do the combo (Dr. Shana Wingo). Wingo DOES go to Banner Thunderbird, and, I later learned, does robotic combo surgeries with my original hernia guy ALL THE TIME. If Patel, a general surgeon who doesn't even work in the same company/clinic as Bennion knows of Wingo's hospital associations, then Bennion MUST have known her peer gynecologist Dr. Wingo goes to Thunderbird and should have wanted me to stick with the best hernia guy and should have said "Let me set you up with Dr. Wingo, she is another gyn in my clinic and she DOES go to Thunderbird." Instead, she only wanted HER payday, even if I went with a lesser hernia surgeon. Hernias are very tricky and often recur, and each successive surgical repair endangers the patient. You want the absolute best hernia surgeon.
I wrote about my dissatisfaction with Bennion on HealthGrades in a review. Bennion's office replied with a canned statement about "please contact us to help resolve your concerns" blah blah blah. THEN (in apparent retribution for my HealthGrades review) her office turned around and failed to send my medical backup to BCBS (despite numerous requests) for the OV1 lab test she did, which would have caused me to have to pay the entire $1,495.00 for the test. Luckily, the lab company ate a write-off loss of $1,200.00. But that still left me with a responsibility for $295.00. Rather than pay that, however, I will be contacting BCBS and Bennion's office to ensure they DO send the medical backup so that some of that $295.00 will also get covered. If I didn't call the lab company, I never would have learned Bennion failed to send the requested backup despite requests from BCBS over a 6 month period. If I didn't investigate the matter, I may have just paid the $295.00 without question, which would have only been made necessary by Bennion's apparent attempts at retaliation. And if the lab hadn't written off $1,200, I would have been left holding a $1,495.00 bag, all because Bennion was probably miffed that I outed her self-serving behavior on a website review.
