I'm currently sitting in the parking lot of the dr office . Granted , I have been able to secure an appointment on short notice , unfortunately , I have been completely caught off-guard by the unprofessionalism of this practice. I've had to file for FMLA for job protection due to an illness . I fax the documentation to the office ahead of time for completion with a dr appt to follow the next week . I show up today to discuss my FMLA paperwork with the dr and am asked to pay $150 for a dr to sign off . I have insurance , very good insurance at that ! I refuse to pay $150 when I'm already missing work due to an illness as is . The front office ladies state "you'll pay double elsewhere , we assumed you'd know" .
I will assign myself a new PCP and hopefully have better service . It sounds like a scam to charge someone anything more than a copay to see the dr and assess the patient's condition . I'll never return .
Advice : please advise your patients over the phone of your separate charges and practices . Your signs are not specific , especially when insurance is supposed to cover your dr visit . A patient is not supposed to pay for a dr to sign a paper.
