  • Spent a good amount of time at The Resort On Mt. Charleston this weekend for a friend's wedding. Because my +1 was in the wedding party, we were here Friday night for the rehearsal dinner as well as all day Saturday for the noon wedding, brunch to follow and reception later that afternoon. And yes, that was a very long day on Saturday, so we got a room that night for passing out purposes. From a guest's perspective, the rehearsal and wedding were OK. Venue itself is rustic but slightly modernized. Friends got married outside on the back patio, facing the mountains. The view was GORGEOUS and it was nice to get some warm sunshine on our faces. Rehearsal dinner and wedding brunch were on the front patio, near the entrance. Wish they had umbrellas at each patio table since the sun gets intense fast. Despite copious amounts of sunscreen, we were all a bit red within 30 minutes. The bar inside was a lifesaver - shaded with a pool table, juke box and attentive bartenders slinging drinks. Food was also OK. Rehearsal dinner Friday night was a BBQ style meal, complete with turkey as well as veggie burgers for the vegetarian groom. Quite thoughtful for a fairly "country" style venue. There was also some BBQ chicken and ribs that everyone enjoyed. Sunday brunch was well-received too, with a huge cheese plate, two types of eggs, waffles and some sort of mushroom chicken. And who could forget the giant bowl of tiramisu served with a giant spoon? Although it looked good, the fact that it had been sitting out in the sun for quite some time (and the giant dollups that came on the plate) didn't seem right. Service was hit or miss. For the most part, the staff is sloooow. Ex: We were halfway through brunch Saturday morning when the gal behind the bar was ready to serve drinks. They just don't seem to be in a hurry OR simply don't have any sense of urgency. BUT there was one gal who worked there who was amazing, helping coordinate the wedding, jumping in to serve drinks, helping set up the buffet... You name it! Every workplace needs a Girl Friday type like this. At the reception, I stopped the Events/Hotel Manager and complimented her on a job well done. Hotel stay was unexpectedly pleasant. Rooms are quite affordable (approx $100 per night) and pretty plush considering. Wish we had stayed Friday as well as Saturday to avoid driving 40 minutes back and forth from Las Vegas proper. Beds were comfy, bathrooms spotless, decent water pressure in the shower. The wedding party was slightly rowdy both Friday and Saturday night and no one complained about thin walls or being able to hear what was happening in the rooms. Overall, a unique space! Definitely not your typical hotel wedding venue. I can only speak to the affordable rooms, have no idea what it costs to get married here. But if you're looking for something rustic and a bit out of the way, check out The Lodge!
