  • Tao was the first club I ever went to in Las Vegas, and I went a few days after Christmas 2005. I worked in San Francisco's club scene for almost three years, so I have to say that as far as aesthetics, my expectations of Tao were definitely surpassed. Located in the Venetian, it is a beautiful setting, with an Asian theme, "live" statues [even a woman bathing in rose petals above one of the bars] and walls that don't make you feel like you'll contract herpes by leaning on them unlike some of the places I used to work at. However, looks aren't everything. Half the people in this venue couldn't dance, and that also applies to the go-go dancers next to the DJ booth. They were still ugly after about 5 drinks, which leads me to my next conclusion: either the drinks here are not strong enough, or they need to find better looking dancers who can actually dance. I'm not that superficial of a person [75% of the time], but this is Las Vegas - for all the money that comes in and out of this city, everything is supposed to be beautiful. It just didn't feel like my kind of party. If I hadn't gotten in for free, I would've definitely felt ripped off. But I suppose this was a different kind of rip-off, though: three hours of my life I'll never get back.
