Disappointing. For what it was trying to offer and for the technology it had, this museum is a bit disappointing. The multimedia presentation was impressive technology-wise, but narrative-wise it lacked sophistication. Furthermore, that narration and the narrative of the story of Montreal was quite insensitive to histories of non-profit whites who lived here. I would argue that the birth of Montreal doesn't begin with assuming the city takes on the identity of a French/Anglo persona. Rather, it should talk about how a space is made into a place with the confluence, conflicts, and negotiations of ideologies. I was quite turned off that the museum practicality began with just a slight mention of Iroquois settlements and didn't try to see how that history was a part and parcel of what Montreal needs to struggle with today in managing the tensions of claims to be francophone majority and cosmopolitan multicultural.
