  • The Smith Center is a beautiful place to be seeing performances...but my first and LAST recent visit to it was by far the worst I have ever experienced! My wife and I went there to see Shen Yun and like MANY others, left by the intermission due to the distraction by the staff and redundancy of the show. The beginning of the show was incredible but quickly became quite redundant. I appreciate the message and history being conveyed, but not with the unprofessional actions of the section staff. It was made quite clear from entering the building to even in the curtains of the stage, that no recording is allowed. As with any place else you go, someone always doesn't abide by set rules. The staff can be expected to do their job to make sure no recording is going on, yet just like a movie theater, people are there to watch the show, not see the staff CONSTANTLY distracting the guests as they go overboard in their monitoring. WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBILITY The wheelchair accessibility was ridiculous to say the least. Guests still had to step over my feet while in my wheelchair so I transferred to a seat. That is but a mere glimpse of the poorly handled experience. NO REFUND / NO REPLY I'm sure The Smith Center may have some great performances shown there, but the Shen Yun show was a $200 waste of our money and the management appears to care about nothing but collecting your money. When I contacted The Smith Center about our bad experience, there was no reply. That is not a good business model to try and generate return customers. In essence, I'm happy for those who may have had a good experiences with shows they have seen, but the number of people who left like we did were consistent with the same complaints as my wife and myself.
