  • Food Quality & Price: Echoing other reviews, the overall consensus of our 12 person Winterlicious dinner group, the food was just okay. Appetizers: Salad, Mushroom Soup or Calamari were are sub-par and served in small portions. Entree: The majority of us ordered the 8 oz House Smoked, Sea Salt Crusted Prime Ribeye Truffled Mash Potato and Yorkshire Pudding. As another reviewer had accurately described, the ribeye was full of gristle and fat. There were times when I took a bite of the beef and ended up with a mouthful of char. There was not enough gravy for the Yorkshire Pudding and the mashed potatoes were fine. For dessert, I don't think anyone like any of the three options. The Chocolate Tart was hard as a rock (I took it to go because I wanted the pretty take out bag). The Toffee Pudding tasted like an apple caramel muffin. And the vegan truffles? Became the joke of the night. We made friends try it just to see their reaction. To be completely honest, for the price, the food is definitely NOT worth it. Better steak at the Keg. I think Prime has gotten confused with the purpose of a steakhouse (priority being steak... not vegan meals). For food, I grade it a 2.5/5. Facility: A great location with underground parking for $7.50 for the night steps away from Windsor Arms! I was really impressed with the atmosphere, ambiance and decor of the venue. I can see why there are so many weddings here. The doorman politely greets you as you enter, directing you to the hostess who will take your outwear to coat check (free service). Washrooms are great but awkward to get to (you have to take the elevator up to the second floor). It wasn't bad, but the elevator was air conditioned... it was -14 out that night. The lobby was small for our group of 12 and so was the lounge we waited in before our table was ready. Lounge had the TV on CP24, bar service and the noise level was very quiet. At dinner, the main dining area is dimly lit for a romantic feel. Dress code is "dressy". All our men were dashing in suits and women in cocktail attire. Service: Our server Joseph was lovely. He was kind, polite and understanding doing everything he could to accommodate our large group. Food arrived promptly, short lull in between servings, and they waited until the last person finished to clear plates. One of our friends' order was overcooked slightly and Joseph (on behalf of Prime) comp'ed her a glass of wine. Joseph was patient and efficient. We were very pleased with his service. Valet Service: Unfortunately, what would have ended the night on a good note, was abruptly soured by one of the valet service personnel. As our group was leaving dinner, we asked a valet staff member to take a photo for us. One of our friends tried to explain how to use the tricky cell phone camera, but was then rudely and sarcastically addressed by Brian (in Valet). Other valet staff noticed, exchanged glances and apologized to us. However, this was unacceptable and unprofessional. Whether it was age or a bad day, there was certainly NO room for this kind of attitude in an establishment that supposedly prides itself on providing upscale service and experience. I made a note to get his name (Brian) and will be entering a complaint on behalf of our group. I hope disciplinary action is taken unless Windsor Arms' standards of practice employs mediocre expectations and low service quality control. Overall: I quite enjoyed the experience and luxury that the Windsor Arms Hotel had to offer but was disappointed in the quality of the food. Service inside the Prime restaurant were great (Joseph went above and beyond). Service from the hotel valet service left much to be desired. Generally, I think many from our group were glad they came to Prime @ the Windsor Arms but none would make it a return destination. Personally, I will be back to sample the Tea Room (which will also be reviewed at a later date), but I also would not seek out to return to Prime. For those looking for a good Winterlicious choice, safe to say, you can skip this one.
