| - My hair was dead. I needed a trim, a re-shape, a treatment... ANYTHING to give my hair life again. Keeping my budget in mind, I opted to try the Aveda Institute instead of going to a regular salon. Everyone warned me about this choice, as the people cutting hair here are students but I ignored all the negative comments. How else will these students get good if they don't have practice?
Just my luck, I got one of the most amateur stylists there. I asked how long she had been doing hair and she replied, "With Aveda, a few months but I've been doing my family's hair for years!" This isn't exactly what you want to hear when you're about to get your locks trimmed but hey - at least she was honest with me. She was a little nervous, the massage/facial wasn't exactly what I had hoped it'd be, and, as it turns out, what I asked for, style-wise, was a little too complicated for her to do on her own. Her supervisor/teacher ended up doing most of my cut. In the end, it really didn't come out too bad. You seriously can't beat a $20 haircut.
My stylist/student did a wonderful job of explaining products to me and thanked me for being patient with her and giving her a teaching experience. She was nice and that seriously made all the difference.
If I ever need a cut again, and I'm riding the budget-train, I'll be going back. I always have to remind myself to be open-minded when going to places like this. We all have to start somewhere.
