| - The Butterwood Bake Consortium is one of the most charming little bakeries I've encountered in quite some time. The decor is absolutely lovely. There's a very elegant vintage vibe here, with fluffy couches and lamps that cast a warm glow. I could definitely see myself coming here for a latte and some sweets and staying for quite awhile with a good book.
The display of all the cakes, loaves, and tarts will make you drool! I had such a hard time deciding what to try, because everything looked incredible. After much deliberation, I chose the chocolate cake with cinnamon espresso cream and meringue. I have to say, the cake was very good. It was rich and moist, and the cinnamon added a nice unexpected touch. But unfortunately at $6 a slice, I just wasn't completely wowed after my first cake experience at Butterwood. After all the hype I had heard, I think my expectations were a little inflated; I was expecting the best slice of cake I've ever eaten, and didn't quite have that experience. I definitely want to come back and try more treats soon!
All in all, I think Butterwood is a bit expensive for what it offers, but the atmosphere is wonderful. It's certainly worth a visit if you're in the area!
