I WAS LITERALLY REJECTED BECAUSE OF THE COLOR OF MY SKIN. Let me be clear, I know it sounds dramatic, and I would like to be clear, the technician is African American, HOWEVER, this is what it all boils down to.. my skin color.
I booked an IPL treatment on Groupon sometime last month. Since my schedule is hectic this is the only opening that worked for me. I suffer from persisting acne, dark scars from acne and I've got some pretty large pores. I was so excited for this treatment
Yesterday I came to my 5:30pm appointment and began my consultation with the technician. Immediately, before even sitting down he tells me that he would not be able to perform the IPL treatment on my skin type.
I am an African American women with highly melanated skin. He goes on to say that my skin type is not ideal for this treatment because it has higher chances to burn and hyperpigmente (cause scars). The technician did offer his apologies and ask if I wanted to try another treatment that better suited my skin type, however the options were well above my price range. I asked him why was this not mentioned when I made the initial appointment? And his response was because of "HIPPA reasons we can't just flat out ask you if you're black" I told him that I am aware of HIPPA, However the scheduler could have reviewed the treatment with me over the phone and described the "ideal" candidate for this procedure.
I'm honestly mortified. I have been dealing with my skin all my life it just saddens me that I am unable to get the help I seek
