Wong's doesn't look like much from the outside and you might even walk right by if you weren't paying attention since it's not street level and there are a few stairs to walk up. Their store is small and so is their list of flavours but the quality is high.
I saw they had a Sesame and Salted Duck Egg Yolk flavour and that's what I went there for. I was just curious as to how that would taste. It actually tastes delicious!! There's a really good sesame flavour and there are little bits of the egg yolk, which has a bit of a chewiness to it. It's sort of like the yolk in a moon cake but without that chalkiness. I highly recommend it!
I also had their Vietnamese Coffee which is kind of basic considering they had some much more unique flavours but I got it because it was honestly the best Vietnamese coffee ice cream I've had hands down! It has a really strong rich coffee flavour. (I'm also a fan of Kekou Gelato's Vietnamese Coffee, but theirs is much lighter in flavour.)
The staff were super nice and let me sample so many other flavours! I also loved the Rose White Chocolate Jasmine but I didn't think it would go well with my Black Sesame one. Next time! It has a really lovely floral flavour. It's actually quite a strong flavour but it's somehow still delicate and done really well.
The ice cream itself is really rich and creamy. They make their own ice cream base which is actually a lot of work! (I used to make ice cream and we always had our unflavoured milk base delivered and there was still so much work! Couldn't imagine, making it completely from scratch.) The pricing seemed a bit steep at first but then when you factor in the quality it's very reasonable I think. Also my double scoop was HUGE, so definitely good value!
Highly recommend!
