| - After much discussion with waitress and two others in my party, ordered zuppa di clams, shrimp fra diavolo and calamari in white sauce over penne.
Waitress told us all food is made to order, isn't it usually? Couldn't just order the caponata, though, would have to get other cold antipasto items I don't eat. So much for "made to order". Couldn't get baked clams either since they have cheese in them (premade?) and am allergic to cheese.
Clams were ok; got more onion focaccia for dunking in broth. Shrimp were ok. Maybe 15 average size shrimp. Not rubbery. Brought out wrong pasta dish, had clams instead of calamari. Replaced it in reasonable time.
Food wasn't as bad as it could have been, just wasn't special. Took too much effort to find dishes that three people wanted to share, rather than a lot of dishes which we could all taste. Also, restaurant needs to have smaller tables. We were originally shown to a table for six (!), but convinced hostess that a booth for 2 (?) would be more comfortable and conducive to conversation.
Everything is large portions; pasta can be bought in supermarket for $.99/lb. Only thing that is not large portion is glass of wine. Not served in a wine glass, but in a small drinking glass.
Family style like this was trendy in late 1980's. Now people would like a small taste of a lot of dishes rather than find a few upon which everyone agrees.
More isn't better, it is just more.
