  • Basketball, skateboarding, running, volleyball....this park even has some tennis courts, an indoor weightroom, and a community center. Whenever I see a park, first things that come to mind are graffiti and urine. I'm pleasantly surprised by how clean and well-maintained the facilities are here. I wouldn't advise changing contact lenses in the bathroom or anything, but it's plenty clean for a public area. The running track is about a 5K (3.10 miles) twice around and well-lighted for evening runs. You also can branch out from here and hit the neighborhood, or cut across to the gas station for an energy drink or some water. This useful expanse of grass and concrete also hosts some summer festivals; I got lobstered here in summer 2004 when Warped Tour came through....seeing Bad Religion and Coheed and Cambria around 8pm with the heat index still at 95 degrees plus and the sun still out was fucking with my synapses, even more so with the $5 mini-waters and super-salty hot dogs. I came down the following weekend with my beat-up deck and my old ass was inadvertently pwned by the rails and the little kids doing perfect ollies and nosegrinds in the bowl. Ahh, the good old pre-drinking days, when "yeah dude, that's how you grind that tranny!" was a perfectly innocent and normal show of support for a well-executed maneuver. QUEUE TIP: When coming down for special events in the summertime, beat the line through online ticketing services. Also, hydrate properly before, during and after the event. Sunblock and an extra shirt to put over the back of your neck helps. XTREEM, DOODS!: Remember, the skate park is concrete. Knee+elbow pads and helmets, despite your kids' protests. If Tony Hawk can pop 900s in full gear, it's not too much to ask. If you're gonna run, park on the side near the basketball court. The vehicle traffic coming in and out of the lot is somewhat less here, so you don't have to worry about looking out for 4x4s at the end of the 6-miler. Since we don't have a beach here, I tend to get my "outdoors" on at this spot as well as Sunset Park http://www.yelp.com/biz/sunset-park-las-vegas. Again, step away from the computer, stop Yelping for 30 minutes, and hope to see you here. We can compliment each other in person! Woot! .......... .....crickets and silence also can be found at Desert Breeze, especially in the late evening hours.
