  • The rooms were relatively clean and they provided complimentary breakfast (dry cereal & milk, aging fruit, and a waffle iron) but the positive experience ends there. My friends and I weren't expecting 5-star treatment at a roadside motel, just a decent place to rest our heads on an overnight road trip. But we were highly disappointed in the lack of service here. Not to mention the odd, stale smell of the place. The mattresses and pillows were hard and uncomfortable and there is no concern for safety at this location. We stayed in a room on the second floor and found ourselves facing a wet staircase at about 9 AM. I'm not talking about a couple of water droplets sprinkled by a wet umbrella or pair of shoes. I mean WET, SOAPY stairs as if someone had just cleaned them by pouring a bucket of suds-filled water down the entire staircase without bothering to dry it. No employee to be found in the vicinity. Even more alarming was the fact that no one bothered to put out a sign alerting people to the soaking floor or directing them to another staircase in the building (which we didn't know was available as we were there less than 24 hours). Since we needed to check out asap to get to an event, we took our chances at a slow careful descent to the lobby. Despite my best efforts, I slipped near the bottom of the stairwell. Embarrassed? Yes, but also terrified of what could have happened. Luckily my hand was on the railing so I was able to catch myself before falling all the way down. I truly fear what could have happened with, say, a small child not paying attention. Why would you leave a staircase soaking wet? In the commotion of my slip, a woman suddenly peeked around the corner at the bottom of the staircase. My friends and I discussed how dangerous it was to leave water on vinyl-covered stairs (any stairs really) as we walked toward the lobby. The woman stared at me but said nothing as I shook off what could have been a terrible incident and we made our way to the front desk to ask the staff to dry the stairs and put out signs. We waited more than 5 minutes for an employee to appear. I excused myself to grab a piece of fruit from the continental breakfast area while one of my friends waited at the front desk. Lo and behold the attendant who finally showed up at the counter was the same woman who had just looked at me after the slip without a word of concern or apology. My friend pointed out the incident that just happened. The woman simply responded with "Well if you go look, there is a sign now". My friend asked for a manager and the woman stated she was today's manager. When I approached the desk the woman turned to me and apologized. Before I could respond she turned to my friend and said, "There, are you happy now" with a smug expression. My friend walked away without a word. I politely informed the woman that I would have been satisfied with a simple apology and better safety precautions rather than her unnecessary attitude. To top it all off, I later found that I'd been charged twice for the room. We returned to the motel after our event to dispute the charge and were told that the first charge was a deposit that would fall off my account within 24 hours. It took 5 days and I wasn't informed upfront of any deposit. I believe they accidentally charged me twice and then reversed the duplicate charge without admitting to their error. I've stayed in much nicer hotels and never had two charges on my account for a one night stay. Never returning to this location and probably any Red Roof Inn.
