So I don't typically review restaurants when they first open because I like to give them time to work through kinks (I've opened several stores myself). But I had a pretty good experience for my first visit here. If you don't know these guy's story, they started off as a hot dog cart in NYC in the early 90's. Because of the diversity there, they started selling Gyro's and Falafel to better serve the Muslim community. Now they have grown to several locations across the US and AZ now has their second location. The Tempe location is in the perfect spot because there are a lot of Middle Eastern restaurants nearby and they fit in perfectly. I'm curious to see how they will do in Ahwatukee being that it is a smaller town and they aren't known for late night eateries (Halal Guys opens till midnight). The restaurant itself is pretty spacious and clean. I love the simplicity of the menu - a couple sandwich choices, platters and some sides. I was greeted by a very friendly staff and ordered their Falafel platter. You have the option of adding several condiment choices like olives, jalapenos, onions and of course their infamous white and red sauces. The red sauce is a real kicker and I love to douse my entree with it. My only bummer is that they have a cool rewards program which wasn't up and running quite yet. But I'm happy to have Halal Guys here in town and hope they do well.
