We are very fortunate that Pittsburgh still has several running inclines. It's such a special staple here in the burg.. been proud of it all my life. I have ridden all the inclines many times in but not recently. This past weekend my nephew who is 10 years old mentioned that he "never" has ridden any of the inclines before! So off we went! I had the Monongahela Incline in mind because of the location --right at station square plenty to do. It wasn't too crowded this past Sunday - despite it being mother day. I tried using my credit/debit card to purchase the tickets at the machine but was unsuccessful. The machine indicates it accepts cash AND credit cards but it doesn't accept credit cards that are also debit. The woman in front me had the same issue.
Luckily, I had cash with me. $7.00 round trip - zone 1 for the both of us wasn't bad at all. It is the same cost of the fare for a round trip for two people from the subway from station square over to gateway center and back.
We didn't wait too long before the train/car started moving. I couldn't wait to snap some great photos and really show my nephew the great view. The view was ok but was a little disappointed because there were so many trees blocking the view - good portion on the one side it was hard to see anything. Early spring or late fall is ideal for the view. The view was still breathtaking. The car is not fully enclosed which is great because it got very warm in the car - especially when there are several people in a car before the car starts to move. The rear part of the train car is partly enclosed with a beautiful design of rot iron. It's nice because it allows airflow!! Great day we had! Thanks Monongahela Incline!
