| - Found this place on yelp when I was in desperate need of a manicure and my regular salon was fully booked for the next week. I work in an environment that demands that you have perfectly manicured hands and feet at all times, so needless to say I've tried my fair share of salons all over the GTA. I have been a longtime fan of gel forms with biogel overlays despite the fact that they're not the best for your nails, simply because they look great and never break on me. Nailsense does not do biogel, so I came in hoping to be able to get my biogel removed and have shellac or axxium put on instead. What followed was probably the most painful experience I have ever had in a nail salon.
The technician literally destroyed my nails with the drill, pressing down on them and going back and forth over and over (you are supposed to go in one direction in gentle strokes). When she was done large patches of the gel remained on my nails. While drills need to be used to break the first layer of the biogel, the rest is easily soaked off with acetone just like any other soak off gel. However, they told me they were pressed for time since I had also made an appointment for a pedicure, so I guess they were rushing and neglected to do my wraps. They were nice enough to tell me that shellac would not last on my thinned out nails, so I agreed to have a regular manicure instead. This turned out extremely lumpy due to all the gel left on my nails, and despite two different technicians checking my nails and giving me the ok to leave the salon, they were destroyed within seconds of me getting on the subway and I was left with a gooey and still clearly wet mess for at least another half hour. When I got home I soaked off the gel with acetone myself and within an hour had given myself a better looking manicure than what I had paid good money for here.
The pedicure was mediocre as well. The water in the basin was freezing cold for some reason. The technician went overboard with the cuticle nipper and was very rough with the cuticle pusher. She was however very good with the polish application and my toes did look great for at least two weeks after. HOWEVER, I got the most painful big toe infection post pedicure, complete with swelling and pus. I DO NOT believe the salon is unclean - they used all new tools for both my procedures, but I definitely think it had to do with the cuts I got from the rough cuticle work.
Overall, I think this is a good BASIC salon. It's relatively cheap, hygienic and the technicians do a good job with very basic services. However, if you come in with less than average nails or are looking for any advanced work to be done, don't waste your time or your money.
