Like many of the experiences listed here, I was admitted to the emergency room for my hand and was informed by the dr. on staff there that she'd like to have a hand specialist come and take a look to be certain that I didn't need any surgery. I was in the hospital for 4 days and Dr. Liu visited me 3 times for a period of 2 minutes each time. Each time, he looked at my hand and determined that I didn't in fact need any surgery. I have 2 insurance policies and so you can imagine my surprise when I find out I have a bill for over $500 since AZ Center for Hand Surgery charged me a minimum visit fee of $170 each time Dr. Liu walked in my room. Under no circumstances did anyone tell me that his office refuses any and all insurance providers and I'd be responsible for fees for his conversation. I didn't even have any procedures done! This is just another example of the consumer needing to fight as to not be taken advantage of in a broken healthcare system.
