  • We first found out about North Maintain Medical & Rehab in September when planning for a place for a place for our family member after a trauma surgery that was performed on September 2nd. The social worker at St Josephs helped us to find the medicare site on line. We selected several sites to visit, based on their scores and location. Two we did not even stop the car, the other was OK, but we did not feel a level of comfort that we thought should be there. Selection was dependent on several things; the appearance of the property was as important as the observed attitude of the staff and the attitude of the patients that we were able to observe in public areas. Meeting the activities director, physical therapists and a case worker allowed us to realize that this was the place that we wanted him to be, while he recovered some four hours away from where we live. The initial meeting with the staff members reminded us that there was a recovery program involved. Our patient suffered from moderate dementia before his fall, we were not yet sure where he was in mental capacity. The Social Director (I like to think of her as the Cruise Director) made sure that we had her cell number as well as her direct line. We made sure that we met each of the assigned therapists as well as his nutritionist and made every attempt to meet as many staff members as we could during our brief visits to the facility. We were only able to visit several days every two weeks. But we learned when the best time to call was. We made sure that our home and cell numbers were available. We got to know the several RNs as as well as the floor secretary. They were keen to know the secrets to getting through to him. We felt certain that they were on our team. The food that was prepared was nicely presented, smelled good and actually tasted as good as it smelled. We can attest to that after sharing several meals with him. Staff never gave upon tempting him to eat. They showed us how to work with him every step of the way, so that we could be involved with his recovery period. Each time that we entered his floor, we were greeted with a smile and made time to meet the staff members on duty. They knew they could call us at any time. The learned how to coach him into going to the dining hall or getting his hair cut. We would get the typical disengaged call from him wanting to be home. If we had been able to make that happen, we would have. Each time we visited him, we saw his condition and demeanor and knew North Mountain had been the right choice. Coming to see him those last days, we were always greeted by nurses and aids as well as other staff, They let us know what he had been up to and helped us allow him to have dignity to the end. What more can I say.
