| - In Vieux Montreal (Old Montreal), this is another must-see site in this cosmopolitan city, and the largest French speaking city outside of Paris.
There is a nominal charge to be admitted to the church and the tour. The Gothic exterior looks fairly ordinary. The twin belfries are not particularly ornate for a great city's cathedral and, if the church wasn't as tall, it could pass for an important parish church. However, they lavished on the inside of the church. The blue ceiling with the stars and the mill work for the altar, pulpit, and other installments are impressive. With camera in hand, you will certainly be taking pictures. The ceiling alone is what gives this church a breathtaking appeal.
People are also shown other parts of the cathedral such as side chapels and other features of the complex. The news we heard on the tour is that Celine Dion can get married in the cathedral, while the regular folks get married in side chapels if they want to marry at Notre Dame. So, for the blandly finished belfries and special concessions made for Celine Dion, one star is deducted. However, it is one of the most beautiful Christian churches in North America and should not be missed if in Montreal.
