  • This was going to be the highlight of my trip. I've been to Vegas a few times and for one reason or another, I never get to make it out to the Bacchanal Buffet. For my current trip, it was the only thing on my list that I had to hit up. We arrived at about 7pm on a Thursday night. The line was fairly large but it was actually fast moving and we were seated within 15 minutes. I saw that they have a machine to add your name to the wait list, if the line is extremely long. So that's kind of nice that you don't have to wait around if it's a large wait. The cost for dinner on a non weekend night is $54.99. We were initially very impressed with the huge selection of food. The choices are great, and there were all sorts of things to try. We saw pastas, tacos, pizza, chinese, sushi, an impressive carving station, large assortments of bread, charcuterie, a massive dessert area and the pièce de résistance, the seafood station. Oh yes. I was very impressed there were things I hadn't seen at a buffet before such as bone marrow, escargot, oyster shots.. pretty cool! Being from Vancouver, I have access to an incredible variety of food. We have phenomenal pasta, pizza, sushi, a HUGE selection of great chinese, and we even have access to seafood buffets. My favorite being a seafood buffet under $25 about an hour from Vancouver, located in Washington state. Being a bit of a foodie, I was so excited to try out all my favorites at once place! I skipped the Chinese and Japanese. I can get that at home and am not a newb to buffets. I'm here for the good stuff. Meat and seafood. I was sorely disappointed. The oysters were pacific oysters. Cheap, fairly tasteless and nothing exciting. There were some king crab legs but to be honest, it was a lot of work as they were small and offered little meat. And if you weren't quick, the king crab legs were taken, and what was left on the plate was the other variety of crab legs (even more work to get meat). My spouse had the octopus, and was disappointed with how overdone it was. He had to spit it out. The meat was alright I guess. I've had better at cheaper buffets. I was super excited to see American Wagyu beef offered along with prime rib roast and bacon at the carving station. The bacon was great, typical bacon. Nothing to screw up there. I asked for the Wagyu beef, while my spouse asked for the prime rib roast. We got the same thing. Alright. Well, whatever it was, it was overdone. It was tough, chewy and flavorless. I did not eat the whole piece offered. I didn't eat the pizza myself, though my spouse did. From just looking at it, I asked if he was sure he wanted one as it looked like it had been sitting out for some time. He said it tasted the same. I tried the bone marrow. It was overdone. We spent our entire time at the table, talking about how terrible the food was. We gave the dessert table a shot, hoping we could fill up on that before leaving. The ice cream was good, hard to screw that up. I tried the flan, tiramisu, creme brulee and macarons. The flan and creme brulee were good. Nothing special but acceptable. Tiramisu was not really tiramisu but it tasted pretty good. It had the flavors of tiramisu, was just assembled differently. I was particularly excited to see macarons offered. In addition to being a foodie and eating out, I also enjoy cooking at home and baking. I bake macarons and have had some moderate success. These things are not easy to make. On initial bite, I was impressed with how fluffy the cookies were. There could have been a little more filling but it rivaled the cookies I buy for $3 each at home. Not bad. Then I tried the next macaron, and it tasted like it was 3 days expired. It was incredibly chewy and I had to spit it out. I had 2 more flavors, and had one that was acceptable and one that was old as well. The macarons basically summed up our experience. This experience was hit and miss. The food is acceptable. You do get a choice of a wide variety of food, and I could see this being particularly great for someone who doesn't get a wide variety of choices at home. If you do have access to these kinds of food at home and have a quality to compare to, you will be disappointed. It will not live up to what you are expecting and used to. It was an experience to try, and I'm happy I did. But I will not being returning in the future.
