| - I agree that ASE is in one of the best locations in Charlotte. South End is an awesome place, close to many restaurants, breweries, cool little shops, the Light Rail, sports venues, etc.
What we did NOT enjoy was the management of the building. From the time we moved in (2011), until we moved out (2015), there was such a drastic change in how the building was managed. Management is unprofessional. I was once yelled at in front of other staff and residents by the building manager, rather than asking me to come to her office. Crime in the building rose drastically, but nothing ever seemed to be done about it.
HOWEVER--I will state that there were 2 people at the front desk that always had a smile on their face, would greet you no matter what and were extremely helpful to ALL residents.
Management is just a bunch of threats. They never do anything they say they are going to do. They say they will tow cars and/or motorcycles because they are not parked in the proper spot, but that never happens. They continuously allow people to make a mess of the building. On the weekends, it feels like you live in a frat house. Dogs pooping in the halls and then leaving it there. Bringing a ridiculous amount of guests to the pool, so that actual residents couldn't enjoy the amenity we were paying for. Basically it's like living with a bunch of spoiled brats who knew that no matter what wrong they did, they would never get in trouble.
When the maintenance manager left, there was a huge change in how well the building was taken care of. Elevators were broken down multiple times. At times causing the building to evacuate because the fire alarm was going off (though, it didn't work in everyone's apartments--not sure how safe that would make me feel if there were an actual fire!). Things used to get done within a day or on the same day. After, there would often be lights out, carpet stains, wall damage, etc. that would last for weeks without being taken care of. Not what you would expect from a "high-end" building.
Beware when you move out. We were told that our pet deposit was used in place of our actual deposit (which was "waived" as a special), so we would not be receiving it back. Sure, the copy in the office shows this, but NO where on our original copy or on any of our records. We were also told that they would take care of cancelling our Duke Energy service, but are now fighting with them over a bill, as we were charged for a month we didn't even live there, and our service wasn't cancelled until 1.5 months after our move out date.
Needless to say, it has some great features/amenities, but they do not make up for what you put up with as a resident. There are a lot of new buildings in the area that may be worth looking at instead!
