  • I have a 96 and 97 Suzuki Sidekick Sports that I use for banging around in the desert. I had a parasitic drain in the 97 that I couldn't figure out. I tracked it down to the Dome/Tail light circuit, but couldn't figure out what was wrong after checking everything on the wiring schematic. Finally, in desperation I looked these guys up and based upon the reviews in yelp decided to take it to them. When I Described the problem Jeff (the son) basically diagnosed it before even seeing the car. He asked if I had an aftermarket security system. I said yes a dealer installed aftermarket system, but it was no longer working. He said that was probably problem #1. Also, he said that oftentimes dealerships install gps tracking units under the dash when someone buys a car on credit so they can find the car if they default on payment. When they start going bad they start causing parasitic drain as well. He explained that they typically wire these into the dome/tail light circuit since of course they need power even when the key is off. So they need an un-switched power source which is why they can cause parasitic drain. I left the car with them and the next day they called by 10am and told me that they had tracked the parasitic drain down to both the security system and a gps tracker as he speculated and removed both. They had the old parts to show me. The total bill was only about $250. I was so happy that I brought the 96 in to get the security system removed since it had also started flaking out and had actually locked up my ignition a few times. He said that when they start failing like this you have to get them out or you could find yourself permanently locked out until you get it towed to someplace like theirs to have it removed. Again I left the car with them and this time they called by 8am to say it was done. They removed the alarm system and showed me the alarm and said that there was no GPS system on this one and the total bill was only $80! Also, this demonstrated that they are honest. They could have easily claimed that it also had the gps unit and charged me more, but they didn't! Super competent and super honest! P.S. I am a snowbird which is why my location shows as Seattle. Some have questioned whether some of my other reviews were valid since my location wasn't in AZ.
