This wasn't a typical restaurant visit - we had a group of Toastmasters friends set up a meeting for 24 in the bar area, and we had a fixed menu for our group.
What I liked - fun venue, lively energy (live accordion music playing on the patio!). The beer (heifeweissen) was wonderful (holy cow - the large comes in a stein that I could hardly lift!!). The sausages, sauerkraut and schnitzel was fabulous. Desserts (cherry and apple strudel) were decent.
They have a large bar area with TVs and lots of seating; an extended patio area and a front dining room that was a little quieter.
The servers were a delight. However - it was weird. They knew that our group would be giving speeches and conducting a meeting. But they put us in the high traffic area in the bar. The manager even bumped into the speaker (who was forced to stand in the walkway) instead of walking around, and gave us a look like we were in her way. It was just too darn noisy to hear more than 10 feet away. I grant that maybe we picked the wrong location for a meeting. But then why didn't the manager (knowing we were coming and what we were doing) put us in that location?
I'm sure this restaurant is a delight if you are just coming in for a fun German food experience. Although my hubby was disappointed about the mustard they provided. So I'm giving a 4 star rating for the experience that "regular" diners were having.
This venue is across town from us - although I love the downtown Glendale vibe - I most likely won't make the long drive to come back anytime soon.
