  • HIGHWAY ROBBERY!!! Kinkos used to be the best little print shop. So many print services were offered and the price could not be beat. Then fedex bought them. Now they are nothing more than an extremely overpriced copy place. Never trust a store like this that does not have their prices publically displayed. Kinkos used to have a priced "menu board" so there weren't many questions as to how much something would cost. Fast forward to now. I had some simple booklets printed a couple weeks ago (think, college report format...nothing fancy). I was in a pinch and instinctively went to the old "Kinkos" because I had loved them so much in the past. How much do you think they charged for this: a simple bound booklet (clear plastic cover with heavy paper black back cover) consisting of 18-20 pages of color copies and black and white text (about 80% black text and some simple color in other places. Nothing extravagant like 4 color process used for a brochure or magazine). Remember, these were printed on a copy machine using a slightly heavier stock copy paper. They printed and bound them and got me out the door in time (which I appreciated). We had 100 of these made for a proposal. Total cost? Anyone have a guess? With tax, the bill came to $4,000. Are you kidding me??? That is laughable and I suspect once they realized it was being paid for on a corporate card (from a very large company) they took advantage. I checked out Staples website (I had, unfortunately, completely forgotten about their printing services when I started this project) and they do have their prices listed. A similar booklet at Staples would have run me about $6-$8 each vs. FedEx's $35+ each. Lesson learned the hard way. Never again will I use fedex for anything...printing or shipping.
