| - One, two, three strikes you're out...at Décor Nails & Spa.
I really wanted to like this place. They're conveniently located to where I live and I think the women that work there are very nice, so believe me when I say that I wish I could give them another try. Unfortunately, they screwed up in three ways that I just can't overlook:
1. The day I got my pedicure, I wore a very uncomfortable pair of shoes to work and had a blister on one of my toes as a result. I didn't think much of it, because I've gone for pedicures with similar blisters on my toes before and have found that most pedicurists are quite careful to not irritate them. So imagine my surprise - nay, SHOCK - when I'm wrenched from what had been a very relaxing pedicure (up until that point) by the pedicurist puncturing my blister and ripping off the skin!! My eyes flew open to find her sheepishly grinning at me - I think I was just so shocked by what had happened that I was literally speechless / disbelieving, so did not say anything to her, but really wish that I would have (although at the point, the damage is done, eh?). Completely unpardonable behavior in my opinion.
2. Related to #1, they have this ghastly wax treatment during the pedicure that I literally cannot imagine anyone actually enjoying. The girl next to me (smartly) requested they skip it; I was foolish enough to get suckered into, which I think was a mistake by the pedicurist, knowing that I had a blister (this was pre-blister rip-off), as it made my blister feel like it was on fire. She should have known better. Anyway, being that this treatment can be skipped, I wouldn't hesitate to try this place again if this were the only crime they had committed, but in light of strike #1, I fear it's merely another indicator of negligent behavior.
3. To cap off the experience, my gel manicure lasted barely a week and a half, and my pedicure started chipping THE NEXT DAY. I really can't suffer a gel manicure that doesn't last at LEAST 2 weeks (it was bubbling after 1 week); I'm guessing it was the application, which I wasn't loving as she was doing it. As for my pedicure, it was Essie polish, so I don't think that was the issue as I've always had great success with Essie polishes; upon further investigation of the pedicure, I have the sneaking suspicion that she didn't use a top coat. Don't ask me how I didn't notice that she wasn't putting it on at the time (maybe I was still in shock), but whatever the case, I was really disappointed by the longevity of both the manicure and pedicure.
I'm completely willing to accept that my experience here may have been an anomaly; they're obviously well-reviewed by and large, so perhaps my mani/pedi can be chalked up to a series of unfortunate events. That being said, you can understand why I'll probably go ahead and try out every single other nail salon in Charlotte before trying this place again.
