| - I made reservations at Mon Ami Gabi for Christmas night at 7PM but my family was hungry earlier, so we attempted to see if they could seat us early. As predicted, they were not be able to seat us until 7PM, so we went to find some nourishment to tide us over (earlier plans resulted in a non-existent lunch) in a nearby bakery inside the casino area. At 6:50PM or so, we came back to line up to see the hostess (took about 5-10 min) who told us that they were running about 10 minutes late. In the end, we were seated at around 7:20PM.
Despite the wait at the start, service during the meal was excellent. Our waitress was always there at the right moments to answer questions, take our orders, or check on us. Both my dad and I had excellent wines and the complimentary baguette was crispy and delicious. I also enjoyed the complimentary carrot side.
We ordered:
Escargots: This came so quickly after ordering! Escargots (although not cooked in the shell) were delicious- lots of butter and herbs. We saved the majority of our baguette so we could tear pieces off and dip into the butter and herbs. Yum!
Beef Bourguignon: Sister's pick. My dad says that a good beef bourguignon typically taste strongly of red wine but sister said it didn't. Given that she doesn't like red wine to begin with, it was a perfect fit! But if you like your beef bourguignon to taste strongly of wine, perhaps another dish would be better. The beef was super tender and the pasta was excellently cooked.
Beef Wellington (Sunday special): Our waitress described their special and my mind caught on "perfect crust" and I couldn't pick anything else. I so do not regret my choice, even though I was presented with a HUGE amount of meet. I don't know how they cut it so well in the middle because even with the sharp steak knife, I had trouble cutting the meat so that it stayed within the pastry crust. So good.
Steak Roquefort: My dad's pick. I only had one small bite of it but wow, it was delicious. He's complained in the past that when he asks for medium rare, he usually receives a more well-done steak. Not in this case- he was happy eating his perfect medium rare steak.
Gala Apple Tarte Tatin: Unfortunately our least favorite part of the meal- some parts of it was large and hard caramel pieces that just became too sticky and too sugary in our mouths.
Overall, great Christmas night meal. 4/5.
