| - I took my dog in to Alta Vista for the first time back in July 2016 because she was just having what appeared to be seizures. Dr. Jones took x-rays, showed them to me, diagnosed my little girl with a heart murmur, and put her on prescriptions meds. Dr. Jones even called a couple of afterwards just to check on my baby and see how she was doing with the meds. Some weeks later my little girl had another episode, and with a phone call Dr. Jones increased her meds and added another med to help. That did the trick for a while longer. I took my little one back to Alta Vista for a follow up. This time she saw a male Dr., I don't even remember his name, and looking back he probably didn't even give it. The Dr. didn't appear to like his job or have any interest in helping patients and their families in times of need. He simply said that I needed to take her to a Cardiac Specialist. I explained to him that I could not afford to take a 14-year-old dog to a heart specialist only to have them put her on the same meds she is on now, but charge me a whole lot more for doing it. No response....
Fast forward: I rushed my dog in to Alta Vista a week ago because she was coughing, having trouble breathing and her heart was pounding out of her chest. She saw yet a different doctor. This Dr. was a step up from the last one, but not nearly as good as Dr. Jones. She wanted to keep my dog overnight to put her on and IV solution of one of the meds she was already taking, and oxygen. This Dr. actually called that same evening before she went home to tell me that she thought my dog was doing better. I got a call the next morning from an Alta Vista staff member that was not a Dr. telling me that my dog was still doing ok and even ate a little bit, and that I would get a call later in the day to let me know when I can pick her up. I never got that call, so I just went in later in the afternoon to see her. I thought it was very strange that they made me wait forever in the waiting room before I could go back and see her. When I did finally go back, my little girl looked 10 times worse than when I brought her in. There was some girl there holding the medical chart, and reading off of it the same thing that the person who called me in the morning did. I told the girl that I would like to speak to the Dr. She walked about 10 feet away to a man sitting at a computer. I could her him talking to her, but couldn't tell what he was saying. The girl came back over and said, well she has a heart murmur and an enlarged heart. I said yes, that has already been established and that isn't going to go away, or get better. Then she got flustered and said that they my dog would be off the oxygen in about an hour, so I went home. Seriously!? The Dr. couldn't get up and walk 10 feet over to tell me what was going on with my dog, WTF? I called a couple of hours later to see if she was ready to go home and the girl told me, yea we took her off the oxygen a couple of hours ago. I said, yea that's why I'm calling. She said she would need to call me back. She called back a few minutes later and said that my dog was ready to come home. After charging me a small fortune, they gave me her discharge papers that ended with "condition improved". I'm telling you that my little girl look like hell. I didn't even get to see a Dr. when I picked her up from the hospital. From that point on, my dog could barely hold herself up, would not eat anything, her heart was still pounding out of her chest, and I had to push her medication down her throat with my finger morning and night. She would only lay in her bed and sleep, and was not responsive to her name. The next day, in a panic, I called the hospital and was told that Dr. Jones no longer works there, and that the other lady Dr. was not in for a couple of days. After a couple days of seeing my baby wasting away, I called a Vet that does home euthanasia to come and put my baby out of her misery. The vet examined her and said that doctors rate the severity of heart failure on a scale of 1-6, and that my baby was a 6, and if I had not called him to come, her heart and the fluid building up would have gotten to be so much that she would have suffocated from it. Alta Vista couldn't tell this?! They sent my little girl home so I could watch her suffocate? They don't have to be cardiac specialist to know this. I can tell you that my other dog will definitely not step paw in Alta Vista. Their Dr's need to work on bedside manners, and quit putting the vet assistants (or whatever they are) in the awkward position of delivering diagnosis and prognosis to patient's families. It's above their paygrade.
