Almost 10 years ago when I went to NYC, I remember being amazed that there was a halal cart on nearly every street corner. Unlike here in Toronto, back then we would have to go to a local Canadian Tire for street food. Although I've never tried 53rd & 6th, or any other location of The Halal Guys before, I did try the competing carts. The first chicken over rice with white sauce I had was so good that I had it nearly everyday that I was there. It was that addicting. I can't say the same with The Halal Guys TO.
I was in the area a few hours ago so I stopped by to get a regular combo (chicken & gyro) platter to go. I found it to be just ok. They were cooked well and I didn't find it dry. What really made it was the white sauce as it goes well with it. I also preferred the chicken over the gyro since the gyro had the taste that you would get tired of eating after 2 bites.
The portion was small and it was overpriced for the value that you get. I wouldn't go out of your way to go here as the food is ok at best.
