Overall, a beautiful hotel - architecturally, this place is gorgeous.
Most of the staff are very professional and care about your experience.
Why one star?
The HVAC system in this hotel is in serious need of a complete retrofit. I walked into my room on the 5th floor - not only was the hallway to hot, but the room was as well. I noted that the old school analog style HVAC controls were already set as low as they can go - the system is central air - and only a trickle of hot air was coming out of the vent.
I called the front desk - and this is what I was told - no lie - "turn off the heat and open a window." Really? Wow...
So I did turn off the heat, went to the window and found my window faced some interior area of the hotel - so no possibility of cool air that way. I called back and the lady suggested she could call Engineering. I asked her to do so. In the meantime I called the Marriott at Key Center and got an immediate reservation - I know the Marriott well and know that the HVAC actually works properly.
30 minutes later, as I was heading downstairs, no one from Engineering had yet to show up to look at the issue.
I related my observations and experience to the front desk and that I was moving to their sister hotel. I recommended they pass up the chain - that the HVAC system needs to be ripped out, updated, and modernized. They were very sympathetic and stated they would pass the feedback on. They stated they could move me to another room - not sure what that would accomplish give the relative overall state of the hotel and the HVAC system...
Interestingly enough, one of the hotel valet employees agreed with me when I mentioned the issue with the rooms...
